Excellent. You’ve nailed the dynamic — but it’s mistake to chalk it up to “the algorithm”. Audience feedback and quantified metrics are the actual core of YouTube. https://www.cambridge.org/core/elements/youtube-apparatus/36600D69788530F805C650B70976A585

100% agreed on that last part, it probably factors into the fact that youtube is one of the only social media platforms that’s still somehow growing almost exponentially

That ending 😂

I live in Canada where they only recently started selling Beast bars. My son wanted to try one when they came out and weren't available here. His Grandpa flew to California for work and had 3 Beast bars mailed to my 10 year old to try. Contraband chocolate. I was pretty shocked by this. He was really excited to open the wrapper, had one bite and handed it to me: "you can have the rest. It's not very good. I don't get what the hype is about."

Really love your fusion of fiction/culture writing/personal essay! Frees you from the churnlike quality of getting a Take in on the subject-of-the-moment and makes for a super compelling read.

hey thanks!! yeah i’ve been really trying to nail a certain style with these, something that i can have fun with/won’t exhaust me if i were to keep posting twice a week for the foreseeable future.

i tried doing hot takes of the moment last month and god i felt like i was dying a slow death lol

Ahh yes, the hot take industrial complex is a harsh mistress... I love the route you've chosen to engage with it though, it's like a well-rounded thoughtmeal and i expect has more potential for longevity this way

it truly is

and i’ve been playing around with the idea of bringing back recurring characters, like the whole foods manager from my amazon piece or the troupe of roving drunk out of work lawyers from this piece. heck, MrBeast might show up in a future piece. combining personal experience with fantastical fiction is such an interesting idea and it gets me all excited
